Selection for top 16 and Driver Idol Event

27 March 2010, Mechanical Engineering Student Association organized an event regarding the selection for the top 16 who will be following to Melacca International Motorsport Circuit, Ayer Kecoh this coming 26th June 2010 at Automotive Lab UTHM. Registration counter was opened from 9am to 12.30pm.

Walk-In-Interview
Interested participant undergo 2 phase of test.

Phase 1:
Participant did General Selection Test where they have to complete 10 general question about UTHM Viva Eco-Challenge 2010 team in 3 minutes. The questions are listed below together with the answers:

Phase 2:
In phase 2, participant will be tested their knowledge in automobile industry. A walk-in-interview conducted by 3 experienced lecturer and selection is done by them.

Driver Idol
As for Driver Idol, participant that registered their name at the registration counter undergo 3 phase of test in selection for Driver Idol.

Phase 1:
Participant did the General Selection Test.

Phase 2:
Simulation test at 1st floor of Automotive Lab where participant will be tested their driving skills. They are tested on maintaining constant speed through out the run, cornering, and handling. Each errors they did will be recorded for selection purpose.

Phase 3:
Myvi manual test driving. During this test, participant will be tested on their driving skills on road. During the test they are tested on maintaining constant speed at 20 to 3o km/hr, handling, cornering, braking, stall, and comment was by En Akmal.

Upcoming Event!



This upcoming event on Saturday (27/03/2010) organized by Mechanical Engineering Students Association:

Driver Idol event and selection will be conducted this coming Saturday (27/03/2010). Interested contestant please be there by 9am. There will be registration counter for interested contestant to register themselves (Automotive Lab). A fee of rm2 will be charged for food and fuel. Contestant will be tested using a manual Myvi and also driving simulator. This is an one time opportunity for you to become UTHM's Driver Idol! Show us your driving skills and maybe you are the one selected to become our UTHM's Star! Be there and please do bring along your friends!

Besides that, there will be a Walk-In-Interview for those who's interested to join and contribute their skill in Perodua Eco-Challenge. Top 16 students will be chosen to enter the racing track during the event. As for those who are not selected, do not be sad. Because you can still help us during the whole car building process, and you can still follow us to Malacca racing circuit as supporters. Your contribution will be recognized and appreciation will be given to you, and of course including a certificate. Bus will be prepared and priority will be given to those who contributes. Don't miss out the chance. It's an once in a life experience.

Calling All Mechanical Students!


Currently we are on a mission of pulling in more members. This is our new poster. We are targeting minimum 100 members to join our Persatuan Pelajar Mekanikal (PPM). We've planned a few programs to be carried out next semester which include visiting Honda Factory which is confirmed and will be conducted on July. Besides that, we are opening up booth during Carnival next semester to introduce our organization to our new members. Our objective is to make Persatuan Pelajar Mekanikal (PPM) as the topic of discussion in UTHM.

Driver Idol, The Chance to Be A Star

The Automotive Research Group (ARG) is on the lookout for budding driving from amongst the UTHM community to represent the university in the Perodua Eco-Challenge 2010. This competition will be pit UTHM with 11 other higher learning institutions selected under a grueling elimination process, with the objective of producing the most fuel-efficient car possible. In this year's edition, the participating universities will be using the Perodua Viva as the basic vehicle. With achieving complete victory as the target, it is with such pleasure that we would like to announce that inaugural DRIVER IDOL contest to find two suitable candidates who fulfill the following criteria:

Requirements:

  • Staff or student of UTHM.
  • Possess a valid Malaysian/International Driver's License, with at least two years of driving experiences using both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Weighs between 45 to 60 kg; those who are outside of this range may also participate in the selection process, but will have to get their weight to within the requirement by 1 April 2010.
  • physically fit, with no previous health conditions that may endanger the participant during intense environmental conditions.
  • A good team player, able to adapt in changing conditions and with good communications skills and as a representative of the university.

Participation fee: RM5.00

Selection:

Selection will be held in two phases:-

Phase 1:

  • Skills Competition using Driving Simulator
  • Test drive using UTHM's MyCitrus
  • Interview with panel of judges

A pool of viable candidates will be selected to the grand finals amongst all the entrants.

Phase 2

Final selection, with the candidates driving the Perodua Viva competition car under simulated racing conditions.


Phase 1 will be held on 27 March 2010, in front of the Automotive Research Laboratory. Those who are interested can contact the following numbers for early registeration.

The day we are waiting for, 05 March 2010 (Friday), Viva Elite 1.0 MidNight Blue reach University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia safe and sound. Its a joy where we can't express and its something that we as Mechanical Engineering Students feel deep inside our heart, where our interest into automotive industry is kept. Its actually once in a life time experience as students where we participate and we learn more about the components in car.

Pasukan UTHM Eco-Challenge Bersedia Untuk Perodua Eco-Challenge 2010


Rawang Feb, 24 - Perodua Eco-Challenge kembali lagi! Meneruskan tema yang telah digunakan pada tahun lepas, edisi tahun ini berusaha untuk mempromosikan pembangunan kenderaan bermotor yang sesuai dengan persekitaran dari segi bahan api yang efisien dan ekonomi. Aktiviti ini akan menyaksikan 12 institusi pengajian tinggi menguji keberanian dalam persaingan kemahiran kejuruteraan melalui satu perlumbaan menggunakan sebuat Perodua Viva di Litar Antarabangsa Motorsport Melaka (MIMC) pada Jun 26, 2010.

Fakulti Kejuruteraan Mekanikal dan Pembuatan (FKMP) Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), yang diketuai oleh Dr Ahmad Jais Alimin, Ketua Jabatan Kejuruteraan Loji dan Automotif (JKLA), telah menyertai upacara penyerahan kenderaan yang diadakan di 'Perodua Learning Centre' di Rawang. Pada upacara itu, sebuat Viva 1.0 telah diserahkan kepada setiap 12 institusi pengajian tinggi masing-masing untuk digunakan dalam perlumbaan. Upacara penyerahan ini merupakan tanda bermulanya Perodua Eco-Challenge 2010, dan ini merupakan kemuncak kepada proses pemilihan yang dilakukan sebelumnya. Pada pemilihan peringkat pertama, UTHM beserta 26 lagi institusi pengajian tinggi awam dan swasta dijemput untuk menyediakan dan menghantar kertas cadangan berkenaan sebarang modifikasi yang boleh dilakukan bagi meningkatkan kecekapan tenaga kenderaan. Dilaporkan, hanya 23 institusi sahaja yang menghantar kertas cadangan tersebut, dan hanya 12 terbaik yang dipilih untuk meneruskan ke peringkat pertandingan.

Ini merupakan tahun kedua berturut-turut UTHM menyertai Perodua Eco-Challenge. Dalam perlumbaan Myvi Perodua Eco-Challenge 2009 tahun lepas, MyCitrus UTHM telah merekodkan 21.6 km per 1 liter Petronas Primax, dan memperolehi tempat ke-4 dalam Kategori Manual. Selain daripada UTHM, institusi-institusi lain yang berjaya melayakkan diri ke peringkat pertandingan termasuklah Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Industri Selangor (Unisel). Penyertaan institusi baru pada tahun ini ialah Universiti Kuala Lumpur-Malaysia-France Institute (UniKL-MFI), Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah (PSAS) dan Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas)

12 kereta, dengan nilai keseluruhannya kira-kira RM470,000, telah diberikan ke semua institusi melalui pengundian yang disaksikan oleh wakil-wakil dari setiap institusi. Perodua juga memberikan kepada setiap institusi satu tabung pembangunan sebanyak RM10,000 bagi memulakan aktiviti-aktiviti ke arah mengurangkan penggunaan bahan bakar kenderaan seminimum mungkin. Projek ini benar-benar terbukti menjadi cabaran besar kerana Perodua Viva sememangnya sudah diketahui sebagai salah satu kereta yang mempunyai penjimatan minyak yang tinggi di jalan raya hari ini.

Viva yang dilancarkan pada Mei 2007 telah memenangi beberapa anugerah termasuklah 'Malaysian Book of Records 2008' sebagai 'The Most Fuel Economy Challenge' bagi kedua-dua kategori, 660cc and 1,000cc. Berdasarkan ujian daripada Perodua, bagi transmisi manual 660cc telah merekodkan perjalanan sejauh 1,461 km dengan menggunakan 52.12 liter minyak, puratanya ialah 28km/liter. Bagi transmisi manual 1,000cc pula, perjalanan sejauh 1,471 km telah menggunakan 53.68 liter minyak dengan puratanya ialah 27.4km/liter. Ini merupakan satu penanda aras bagi pasukan Eco-Challenge UTHM, yang terdiri daripada pelajar Kelab Kejuruteraan Mekanikal yang dibantu oleh para pelajar dari fakulti lain dan juga 'Automotive Research Group' (ARG). Pasukan ini telah merancang beberapa pengubahsuaian secara teknikal dalam usaha untuk menyediakan peningkatan jarak perjalanan pada kenderaan.


UTHM menerima ViVa Elite AT 1.0 untuk Perodua Eco-Challenge 2010.

Pemenang Perodua Eco-Challenge akan dinilai melalui jarak perjalanan terhadap pengubahsuaian kenderaan yang menggunakan 1 liter petrol RON 95. Sebagai tambahan, markah akan diberikan berdasarkan penghiasan pada kenderaan dan juga sokongan daripada kalangan pelajar.

Pemenang hadiah utama bagi kategori manual dan automatik akan menerima hadiah sebanyak RM20,000; kedua sebanyak RM10,000 dan ketiga sebanyak RM5,000. Dalam kategori kejuruteraan, RM10,000 bagi juara, sememtara tempat kedua sebanyak RM5,000 dan tempat ketiga sebanyak Rm3,000.

Adalah diharapkan pertandingan ini akan memberikan inspirasi kepada semua pelajar kejuruteraan, terutamanya daripada pelajar Fakulti Kejuruteraan Mekanikal dan Pembuatan, bagi menyokong pasukan Eco-Challenge UTHM. Ini merupakan peluang yang bagus bagi para pelajar dan staf untuk memperoleh dan mengaplikasikan pengetahuan mereka di dalam bidang kejuruteraan mekanikal dan automotif. Selari dengan penyertaan ke pertandingan ini, Fakulti Kejuruteraan Mekanikal dan Pembuatan akan mengadakan satu program pemilihan pemandu yang dipanggil 'Driver Idol'. Oleh yang demikian, setiap warga UTHM digalakkan untuk menunjukkan sokongan mereka kepada pasukan dengan menyumbang dan menyertai sebarang aktiviti yang akan diadakan kelak.




Sejarah Perodua Myvi Eco-Challenge 2009

Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) menerima Myvi non-registered oleh Perodua pada 30 Mac 2009. Perodua menyediakan sebanyak 12 unit 1.3 liter Myvi berharga RM 480,000 keseluruhannya untuk diserahkan 12 institusi pengajian tinggi tempatan dalam mengambil bahagian Perodua Eco-challenge ini.

Cabaran ini dipertandingkan di Speedway Plus Circuit Subang pada 20 Jun 2009. Jumlah wang tunai yang ditawarkan pada masa itu sebanyak RM 88,000. Walaupun begitu, hanya 9 tempat hadiah sahaja yang disediakan, iaitu 3 tempat untuk 'auto transmission', 3 untuk 'manual', dan 3 untuk 'booth and presentation'.

UTHM menerima Myvi Tangerine Orange SE (MT) sebagai cabaran 'Eco-Challenge Race Perodua' dalam membawa Myvi ini berada dalam jarak terjauh dengan hanya menggunakan 1 liter minyak sahaja.

Myvi yang dicipta' baru ini diuji 18 Jun 2009 sebelum hari pertandingan di Speedway Plus Circuit, Subang. Setelah tamat pengujian, Myvi ini dikuarantinkan dari sebarang pengubahsuaian. Pada masa ini, tangki minyak dikosongkan oleh pihak Perodua dan diperiksa mengikut spesifikasi Myvi yang ditetapkan oleh pihak Perodua bagi bersikap adil.

Berat minimun pada kereta adalah 700kg, manakala pemandu adalah tidak kurang daripada 50kg.

Berikut adalah mereka yang terlibat dalam menyahut cabaran ini atas nama UTHM;

2. Pelajar-pelajar Diploma Kejuruteraan Mekanikal serta Teknologi (Automotif) Tahun 1 2008/2009 (16 orang).
